Chipease
noun | chip·ease | \ˈchip-ˌēz\
Definition: the language of microchips.
Origin: coined by Founder and CEO of Direct Components, Aaron Nursey.
The term “Chipease” slipped into conversation in a company meeting and has since stuck. It describes the fluency of all things microchip. It goes beyond a catchy phrase or a simplified explanation of supply chain jargon – it represents our commitment at Direct Components to understanding and mastering every aspect of the semiconductor industry.
Looking under the hood of Chip-ease:
E – represents Education
A – represents Analysis
S – represents Sourcing
E – represents Engagement
In the electronic component industry, you must speak Chipease while also demonstrating it, and at Direct Components, we broke this down by the actions above.
Firstly, education and professional development are the support layers to experience. Do your strategic partners and sourcing specialists participate in industry associations, trade shows, and exhibits? Ours do, and they also become students in our internal “DCI University” program, which enhances skills, knowledge, and performance by offering a range of courses, workshops, and programs. The curriculum covers various aspects of the electronic component industry. This program empowers professionals through continuous learning, helping them stay informed on market trends while growing in their roles and contributing to the company’s success.
Mastery of Chipease means possessing an in-depth understanding of the semiconductor industry. It involves knowing part number structures and being able to offer viable alternatives. This expertise is crucial for making informed decisions and staying ahead in a competitive market.
It is important to be concise and clear in a landscape that requires precision. Providing straightforward, accurate information is essential. Transparency fosters trust and reliability, and it requires thorough analysis to do that. At DCI, we do not simply fulfill requests; we source solutions and aim to solve complex problems. Asking the right questions and using internal and external sources helps our team analyze situations to offer strategic guidance and insights.
A significant aspect of Chipease is knowing where to source high-quality components. A long history (DCI has been speaking and living Chipease for over 26 years) certainly helps build relationships across the globe. The advantage of experience also includes many years of tried and trusted techniques in counterfeit mitigation, lab and warehouse processes, equipment, and testing expertise—not to mention a meticulous quality management system through certifications. This background paves the way for meaningful collaboration with trusted partners and building a network of like-minded suppliers that meet our high standards.
Lastly, and certainly not least in the Chipease acronym is engagement. As much as AI is a powerful tool, so is our HI – human intelligence. Speaking with a real person who genuinely cares about your situation sets partners like DCI apart. Speaking Chipease means having a real conversation with someone who understands end-of-life and obsolescence, PPV reduction issues, excess inventory management, supply chain services that are customized to your needs, financial and payment terms that are not one-size-fits-all, alternate component recommendations when the need is urgent, or exploring any possibilities that get you out of a bind. Truly engaging means you have a reliable person you can call when you need rescuing because that is what a good Chipease partner does.
